HOPE E. BUCHHOLTZ: THREE DANCERS SERIES

Robert Hromec‘s art explores the very nature of our existence. In his mixed media works which combine painting, drawing and printmaking, we encounter a unique pictorial language, one that juxtaposes the human experience with its environment and joins the dream world to the conscious state. Hromec´s figures are ambiguous and universal, often represented by a single outline painting or drawing surrounded by a variety of textures and abstract shapes. Through the synergy of texture, color and the human form, Hromec conveys an indelible image of the physical, mental and the spiritual.

In the Three Dancers series (1994), figures interact with one another in a harmonious balance. Their limbs overlap in frenetic motion reflecting the rhythmic and melodic sensations. Yet, there is a disquieting sense of isolation in their expressions. It is here that the dichotomy of the physical and the mental presents itself for our scrutiny.

Hromec´s interest in the cyclic nature of human existence is evident by his ubiquitous use of circles as a background for his figures and his depiction of the different stages of life.

Umenie Roberta Hromca skúma absolútnu podstatu našej existencie. V jeho dielach, v ktorých kombinuje rôzne techniky  – maľbu, kresbu a tlač,  narážame na jedinečný jazyk obrázkov, ktorý stavia skúsenosť človeka k jeho prostrediu a spája svet snov so stavom vedomia. Hromcove postavy sú viacvýznamové a univerzálne, často znázornené jediným obrysom, obklopené rozmanitosťou textúr a abstraktných tvarov. Prostredníctvom synergie štruktúr, farby a ľudských podôb vyjadruje Hromec nezmazateľný obraz fyzického, myšlienkového a duševného sveta.

V sérii obrazov Tanečnice (1994), postavy vzájomne pôsobia v harmonickej rovnováhe. Ich končatiny sa prekrývajú vo frenetickom pohybe odzrkadľujúcom rytmické a melodické pocity. Avšak v ich výraze je prítomné znepokojujúce vedomie izolácie. A práve tu sa skúmavému pohľadu odkrýva dichotómia fyzična a duchovna.

Hromcov záujem o cyklickú podstatu ľudského bytia je zreteľný v jeho všadeprítomnom používaní kruhov ako pozadia postáv a v jeho zobrazovaní rôznych fáz života.
